Have you ever been to a website and felt overwhelmed by the amount of information?
Many businesses think they must build their credibly online by telling visitors every detail about themselves, services, products, etc. The purpose of a website, for many small businesses, is to briefly introduce visitors to their business, and provide just enough information to cause prospective clients to pick up the phone. Providing good calls to action (a contact form, survey, prominent phone number) along with quality content will encourage prospects to contact you.
Another important point about a website’s content is it’s relevancy to the business, the service and industry news. It’s no longer acceptable in the web world for, say, a web design company to write about their employee’s dentist visit and throw in a few relevant keywords, such as Omaha web design. With the advanced nature of Google algorithms and Google bots, it’s important that your website content be concise, relevant and full of pertinent keywords – to both the article and the industry.
All of this advice points back to some work on a business’ behalf. Our team is excited to announce that JM Web Designs lead designer, Dan Svoboda, was awarded two silver medals by the Davey Awards. His designs were submitted among thousands of other competitors from small firms around the world.
Dan’s winning designs included his hand illustrated website design for Millard Children’s Academy in Omaha in the category of Creative Design. His logo for the Omaha Beer Festival also took silver in the graphic design category.
The Davey Awards competition is among the largest and most prestigious awards competition exclusively for small firms. By recognizing small firms, it’s meant to give credit and encouragement to those who derive their strength from big ideas, rather than stratospheric budgets. The Davey is sanctioned and judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts whose members include executives from organizations such as Condè Nast, Michael Kors Inc., Disney, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Microsoft, HBO, Monster.com, MTV, Polo Ralph Lauren, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Victoria’s Secret, Howcast and many more.

JM is excited to introduce our newest team member, Andy Ott.
Andy comes to JM from South Sioux City, Neb., and will work in business development. With a strong background in Customer Service and Sales he brings charisma and experience to the JM team. For over five years, Andy has developed his skills in client service and customer relations in sales and uses his experience at JM to bring in new, lasting clients.
As a business developer, Andy’s first priority is to get to know you and your business. Through this initial stage of exploration, he assists in developing goals for your site and formats a proposal based on your needs. Through building a strong relationship with clients, Andy ensures your website will be efficient and affordable.
Andy is an active member of the Omaha Chamber of Commerce and other groups in the Omaha-Metro area. In his free time, he also enjoys playing and watching sports and is a former assistant baseball coach at his alma mater, South Sioux City High School, where he coached for four years.
JM is excited to announce that we’ve recently moved locations. For those of you who visited the JM office in the past, you will notice we are in the same building downtown on 19th, but in a different office space. The new address is 300 S 19th St. Ste. 304.
Our new space needs some TLC, so our team is in the process of painting and cleaning. But, it’s business as usual at JM, so feel free to stop by and see our new space.

Be strategic about what you want your website’s visitors to see and do. Keep in mind – you have somewhere between 5-10 seconds to capture a visitor’s attention. Be direct about your company’s purpose and let new customers or prospects know exactly what you can do for them. The longer it takes to get an end result for an online customer, the less chance you have to sell them your services.
