Our team at JM spends a significant amount of time consulting Google Analytics. This is a powerful tool we include in each website, which helps measure the success of a website’s design, content and layout.
Analytics provides a detailed account of users – where they live, how they found your website, what devices they are using and what pages they visited. Here are some ways you can use user trends to determine the current quality of your site:
- What geographical location are your visitors primarily from? If you are a local, Omaha business it would be ideal for your visitors to be from Omaha or the surrounding area. If your users are coming from San Francisco and you’re a local Omaha business, maybe you need to reevaluate your website’s content, page titles and Google places account.
- How did your visitors find you? If your users typed in your website URL directly into the browser, this indicates excellent brand recognition. This is particularly helpful when using a specific URL for an ad campaign. Using a specified URL for an ad campaign can help you measure its success.
- What devices are your visitors using? As technology rapidly changes, tracking the devices which your visitors are using is valuable knowledge for getting to know your target audience and for making sure your website is user-friendly for those devices. If high traffic volume is coming from a mobile device, it’s best to evaluate how your website functions within that particular resolution. JM recently started offering responsive design services to ensure your website is user-friendly across all devices.
- What pages are users visiting? Google analytics goes into extensive detail about where users are going on a website. It shows top pages, how long users stayed there and what they clicked while on a given page. This information will help you assess the quality of information on your site. Is it informative? Interesting? Are users appropriately following the call to action (meaning where you would like them to go and how you would like them to make contact)?
This is just the beginning of what Google analytics can offer. Our team can not only install analytics on your website but help review the data and analyze action items to ensure your website is reaching your target audience.

JM recently released a new 2013 radio ad on Omaha’s local KFAB station, with our very own CEO Jonathan Patton talking about our new SEO (search engine optimization) packages. Check out it and let us know what you think on our Facebook page!
Have you ever been to a website and felt overwhelmed by the amount of information?
Many businesses think they must build their credibly online by telling visitors every detail about themselves, services, products, etc. The purpose of a website, for many small businesses, is to briefly introduce visitors to their business, and provide just enough information to cause prospective clients to pick up the phone. Providing good calls to action (a contact form, survey, prominent phone number) along with quality content will encourage prospects to contact you.
Another important point about a website’s content is it’s relevancy to the business, the service and industry news. It’s no longer acceptable in the web world for, say, a web design company to write about their employee’s dentist visit and throw in a few relevant keywords, such as Omaha web design. With the advanced nature of Google algorithms and Google bots, it’s important that your website content be concise, relevant and full of pertinent keywords – to both the article and the industry.
All of this advice points back to some work on a business’ behalf. If you are a business owner or an overworked employee you may not have time to review the website and consistently post quality articles. With so many companies competing for high organic search engine rankings, it’s important to stay on top of website content. Look at it as time and money spent toward a marketing budget. This is why companies like JM offer copywriting and SEO (search engine optimization) services. If you do have time – GREAT! Review your current content and evaluate it. Also, add a blog to your site, through which you can easily manage your website’s content.
Just remember – give a prospect a reason to call you. Your website is just a window into what you do and who you are.
Our team is excited to announce that JM Web Designs lead designer, Dan Svoboda, was awarded two silver medals by the Davey Awards. His designs were submitted among thousands of other competitors from small firms around the world.
Dan’s winning designs included his hand illustrated website design for Millard Children’s Academy in Omaha in the category of Creative Design. His logo for the Omaha Beer Festival also took silver in the graphic design category.
The Davey Awards competition is among the largest and most prestigious awards competition exclusively for small firms. By recognizing small firms, it’s meant to give credit and encouragement to those who derive their strength from big ideas, rather than stratospheric budgets. The Davey is sanctioned and judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts whose members include executives from organizations such as Condè Nast, Michael Kors Inc., Disney, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Microsoft, HBO, Monster.com, MTV, Polo Ralph Lauren, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Victoria’s Secret, Howcast and many more.
We are thrilled to have been recognized for this award and look forward to Dan’s continued creativity as he designs websites and graphic materials for businesses all over the Omaha area.

In case you don’t already know, SEO is a technique which helps search engines find and rank a site, among the millions of sites utilizing similar keywords and phrases. Users tend to visit sites near the top of search engine rankings, so good placement is key to success on the Internet.
For the last 15 years, JM primarily focused on providing Omaha beautiful and functional web design, ecommerce websites, robust content management systems and custom development. And while all these items are critical in a website’s success, the next step is to market a website using strategic SEO.
Google and Bing are the two major search engines, and are constantly changing their algorithms (the rules and formulas a search engine uses to rank websites and produce results). JM’s team will stay updated on the industry news and updates, managing a websites SEO value efficiently and effectively.
Our SEO packages include a large amount of research, optimized keywords and pages, new and fresh content, along with an XML site map. We’ll continue to go into each of these items on our blog, but feel free to give us a call and request more information on our SEO services and how we can assist your company’s marketing efforts.
