Research on E-commerce

Two-thirds of all U.S. households will shop online by 2007, according to Carrie A. Johnson, an analyst at Forrester Research. E-commerce grew by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 97 percent over the past five years, and will grow at a 25 percent CAGR over the next five years.

As travel and electronics mature and experience slower growth over the next five years, late-blooming categories will experience the most rapid growth, such as:

Food and beverage will grow at a CAGR of 49 percent, reaching $18.2 billion by 2007.

The home products category will grow by 42 percent over five years, from $7.3 billion in 2002 to $42 billion in 2007.

Flowers, cards and gifts will grow by 41 percent, from $951 million in 2002 to $5.3 billion in 2007.

Test Your Site's Visual Impact
by John Campisi, President

Here's a fun way to test the visual impact of your own Web site, without using any fancy technology.

  1. Get comfortable in front of your computer and browse to your Web site's homepage. When the homepage loads completely, close your eyes.

  2. Relax a moment. Open your eyes and look around the page—for just 5-10 seconds—then close your eyes or turn away from the computer.

  3. Now, recall what you saw.

What do you remember? Several items? Just a few? Were they specific items, such as individual words, phrases, or images? Were they general items, such as colors or shapes? Try the experiment a few times, and see if you recall different items. Read the full article >>>
