Earlier this evening, I attended the Nebraska Film Association’s [NFA] Launch Party, celebrating their efforts to finalize their bill and get it to the Nebraska Legislature. I was shocked, but pleasantly surprised to find out that they made honoring JM part of their evening.
After listening to State Senator Heath Mello speak about gathering steam to take this to the next session, as well as the importance of directly contacting our individual senators, Mark Hoeger (NFA President) spoke and challenged everyone to get involved. It was very inspiring to see all the people who are determined to bring income to the state through creative means.
Basically, this is what the NFA is after: they want the Nebraska government to give incentives to movies that get made in our state. The state gives them a tax break, and they spend their money in Nebraska – thus creating a repeating stream of jobs and revenue for countless industries from construction to hospitality and lots in between.
NFA Secretary/Treasurer Michelle Schrage closed the evening with a public thank you to JM and called for an impromptu speech, where I was able to show our support of their cause and share our desire to help bring money not only to Nebraska, but to our local community of Omaha. After about a one minute “thank you” to all those in attendance, I was greeted with a large round of applause that, frankly, humbled my heart.
It’s awesome to be a part of a team (JM) that helps create opportunities like this for wonderful organizations like theirs (NFA). It was also fun to spend some time with one of JM’s friends and long term clients, Chad Bishoff of Direct Casting.
